Non-profit book marketer in Washington DC. I love baking, reading, and aimless wandering. I own too many nail polish colors.

President Parker posted a few model sketches of the upcoming Sweet Briar library renovations. I’m beyond thrilled to see these. The library has needed an update for so long and I’m happy that the project is finally within reach. SBC alum are notorious for smack talking any changes on campus but I have to say that these sketches are gorgeous. Could you imagine having all that natural light in the library?! The stacks won’t be so scary anymore. So good job, SBC!

Sweet Briar represent!

Again, the ladies of Sweet Briar prove their superiority at creating such a fire storm about (fill in the blank) that the administration is forced to respond. With a letter. That you have to download instead of reading on the SBC website. As a Word document. I repeat- as a Word document. Ok, maybe all that animosity is deserved.

Oh, and stop messing with our traditions, Jo Ellen! Don’t make me come down there and chalk up your front porch!

This is incredibly funny and cute. I’m a fan of anyone who pokes fun at the Sweet Briar Woman song.

1954 Briar Patch

The Briar Patch archives never cease to amaze. The illustrations in them are so adorable! Makes me wish I had commissioned more than a cover sketch for the issues I worked on.

I got this in the mail yesterday and just about cried. Emily found a 1927 copy of the sheet music to the Sweet Briar song online and framed it for me. It’s probably one of the nicest and most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever received. Ok, I’m getting a little misty just thinking about how wonderful my Sweet Briar ladies are.

Read this headline and panicked:

Sweet Briar bookstore going out of business

What?! Where am I going to buy my Sweet Briar tote bags and water bottles and stickers and mittens and other assorted crapola?! Read a bit further and turns out it’s a used book store in California. Whew! Dodged a bullet on that one.

bridges-balloons:

This is Sweet Briar’s website. There is a shit storm from the students about this. Nobody is happy.

I really want to know why SBC completely inept at creating a decent website. Year after year. Bad idea after bad idea. And it’s not just the design but the copy as well. Change the world? Stretch your view? Where to go? This is women’s higher education! Not a girls summer camp or boarding school. Alum should be unhappy as well (in addition to combining Homecoming with Parents Weekend). Can I specify that my annual fund donation go towards fixing their website and social media problems?

We painted the rock and hitching post with alum colors and years. Happy to still be a part of traditions! (Taken with instagram)
